The Victoria Quarter is an exquisite shopping arcade in the centre of Leeds. Ironically, Leeds most prestigious mall, known as ‘the Knightsbridge of the North’, was built over slum markets and slaughter houses. In 1900, the proprietor of the area, Leeds Estates, hired Frank Matcham, a renowned theatre architect, to create a fantastical shopping experience. Ornate, Victorian ironwork entwines with layered marbles and a rich tapestry of reds and greens. Victoria Quarter was renovated in 1989, and as a result a beautiful stained glass ceiling has been added. The arcade is a fitting home for high-fashion boutiques and chic cafés.
