As a port and market town, much of the trading activity in Newport used to centre around the indoor market. The market was built in the 19th Century and has recently undergone a major refurbishment to restore it to its former glory. As part of the refurbishment, an artist was commissioned to design and create a window for the first floor. Catrin Jones’ design is colourful and adds to the vibrant atmosphere of the market. There are stalls selling all manner of goods from fresh meat, vegetables, and bread to music, books and creative materials.
